Christmas lights switch on events will be held around South Swindon throughout next week.

The area’s parish council has set up three festive trees at Broadgreen Community Centre, Cavendish Square and Badbury Park Community Hub.

Each free-to-attend event will feature a unique blend of local entertainment, festive refreshments, and community spirit, with a special appearance by Santa Claus at all three locations.

Broadgreen Community Centre’s event will be held on Tuesday, November 19, followed by a similar event at Cavendish Square on Wednesday, November 20, and the final switch-on at Badbury Park Community Hub on Thursday, November 21, all from 5pm to 7pm.

Broadgreen Community Centre will feature live performances from Rhythmix Goa and Sizzling Stars, with complimentary samosas provided by the Harbour Project.

Attendees can also enjoy Christmas crafts, henna, and face painting provided by the Harbour Project.

A food stall from Sim's Kitchen will be on-site, Bollywood drop-in sessions will take place at the Hutti, and the Library Outreach team will be hosting lantern crafts that will be showcased at the town centre light switch-on.

Cavendish Square's celebration will showcase local talent with live music from Natasha Bushnell and community choirs.

The Parks Library will remain open throughout this event, and visitors can enjoy various food and refreshment options. There will also be stilt walkers and a food stall from Mazza's Munchies. Visitors can participate in Christmas crafts, face painting, and a tombola run by the National Literacy Trust.

The event at Badbury Park Community Hub will host live music from Natasha Bushnell, Badbury Park Primary School, and The Voice finalists Billy and Louie's Choir.

There will be a special story time session with Santa, as well as Christmas crafts and face painting. Food and refreshments will be available from Lizzy Bakes, Stockers Street Food, and Badbury Park Pizzeria, and Fandangos will set up a bar will be on-site.

Cllr Linda Kasmaty is South Swindon Parish Council’s chair of leisure, environment and amenities.

She said: “These switch on events are a wonderful opportunity for our communities to come together and celebrate the start of the festive season. “The Christmas trees have been so well appreciated for the past few years and I can't wait to see them lit up once again.
