A driver who broke down on a busy A-road in Swindon is now facing a £100 fine for the incident.

On Sunday, November 17, police in Swindon were called to the A419 after a car broke down on the road causing one lane to be temporarily closed.

The tyres of the car has completely blown causing the driver to come to an abrupt stop.

But according to PC Cook and PC Murphy who attended the scene from Swindon Response 3B team, the tyre blowout was the result of extremely worn tyres which were well below the the legal 1.6mm tread depth.

The driver of the car now will not only pay for repairs, but they also now face a £100 fine and three points on their licence for the illegal tyres.

“Braking distances increase in worse weather, so please ensure that your tyres are in good condition to keep you and other road users safe.

“Tyres must have a minimum of 1.6mm across the central three quarters, and there mustn’t be any chunks, gouges, cracks or bulges in the tyre.”
