Swindon Borough Council is activating its Severe Weather Emergency Protocol to accommodate rough sleepers as temperatures plummet and snow covers the town.
A spokesperson for the local authority said: "When temperatures are forecast to fall to zero degrees or lower for three consecutive days, the government- backed (SWEP) for rough sleepers is activated.
"This means we will accommodate anyone who is known to rough sleep.
"We work with some amazing providers such as Booth House and The Haven Day Centre to offer extra provisions during adverse weathers and we will use additional accommodation if needed.
"Individuals will make their own decisions about whether to accept an offer of shelter based on their circumstances.
"Outside of SWEP being activated, we aim to make an offer of accommodation and help to anyone we find rough sleeping, though not all choose to accept this offer for various reasons including poor mental health, trauma and addiction.
"Our rough sleeper average nightly figure is very low at the moment and our Rough Sleeper team are out early in the mornings offering support and advice to anyone refusing an offer of accommodation.
"Rough sleepers can contact a Housing Options Officer to discuss their circumstances on 01793 445503 (available 24/7).
"Anyone concerned can raise an alert to us on the StreetLink website, so we can locate people in need and offer support.
"You can also email us on Roughsleeperoutreach@swindon.gov.uk"
