Police have snared drivers using a pedestrianised street as a “rat run” during an ongoing town centre road closure.
Northgate Street in Devizes has been closed since a fire caused major damage to the Kebab and Pizza House on Tuesday, November 12.
This has reportedly led to an increased number of drivers using the pedestrianised Snuff Street as a cut-through to reach New Park Street from The Market Place.
Mandi Mann, who runs Cosy Cafe on Snuff Street, took to Facebook to warn others of speeding cars on the road, claiming the situation was “dangerous”.
She said: “Something needs to be done ASAP before someone gets hurt or killed.
“Since the road closure, drivers are still using Snuff Street but very dangerously, drivers are now racing down the road at extreme speed.”

Police confirmed they patrolled the route on November 18 and caught four drivers in just 20 minutes.
They have been issued with £50 fines.
PS Wickham said: “We’re in Snuff Street this afternoon just having a look and seeing what’s going on in relation to the Market Place being closed.
“It’s important to bear in mind that Snuff Street is a one-way street and it’s for pedestrians only.
“You’re not able to drive up here day to day unless you’re gaining access to Snuff Street.”
