A four-month road closure has started in Wiltshire and is expected to lead to more cars on the county’s busiest A-roads.
Bremhill Lane near Calne closed to traffic on Monday, November 18, as part of a £2.5 million project to upgrade the water supply in the area.
This stage of the scheme will focus on replacing over a mile of degrading water main between the village of Bremhill and the hamlet of Ratford.
The road closure is due to remain in place until March 21, between the junction with Turf House Lane and Ratford.

During this time, drivers will be diverted onto the A4 Chilvester Hill and the A3102 along the outskirts of Calne.
When the works were announced, Wessex Water’s director of engineering and asset management Eddie Rant said they would lead to “improved water quality” in the area.
He added: “Following our five-month project in Bremhill last summer and a number of projects in and around Cherhill, we’re continuing to renew our water main network in this area and indeed Wiltshire, using plastic pipes to replace the existing cast-iron ones.”
Following this work, a £500,000 project to replace 1,900 metres of main to the north near Hilmarton will start next April.
