An empty shop in Swindon is being refitted and locals are speculating a new café could be opening soon.
The former Cash 4 Clothes unit on Purton Road is undergoing a transformation to completely renovate the building.
Locals have spotted builders going into unit 1A and work being done on the interior, which they have been told is going to be a café.
One resident reported speaking to a man who they saw exiting the building, who said it would be an independent café, and cake and sandwich shop.
Details confirming who has taken over the unit and when a new business will be opening are yet to be revealed, but locals are delighted to see something is finally happening to make the most of the space.
The unit has been vacant for some time next to neighbouring flats and the Moredon Stores convenience shop and near Moredon Post Office and Perfection hair salon.
It is opposite the disused Boundary House pub which was closed by Arkell’s Brewery in 2022. Since then planning permission has been submitted to convert the former pub into four flats and six houses, in two blocks of three, on the car park facing Purton Road.
