More than 1,100 cases of anti-social behaviour have been reported to Swindon Borough Council in the last six months.
The council’s commitment to keeping communities safe has led to the launch of a new online reporting system, aimed at encouraging residents to raise their concerns about actions that are causing nuisance, harassment or distress to individuals or the wider community.
As part of National Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week from November 18 to 24, Swindon Borough Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour officers, Housing Enforcement officers, and Community Safety Wardens are hosting a series of events to highlight anti-social behaviour issues and signpost residents to available support.
Community Safety Wardens, funded by a grant from the Wiltshire and Swindon’s Police and Crime Commissioner, and partner agencies including health services work together to tackle complex cases and implement a proactive approach to community clean-up projects, such as clearing fly-tipping and graffiti in Broadgreen.
The council takes a victim-focused approach and uses informal interventions like mediation, but for persistent cases, Community Protection Notices and Criminal Behaviour Orders are implemented.
Dean Tilling, one of the council’s Anti-Social Behaviour officers, said: “Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week is a chance to highlight the work we do all-year round to make Swindon a better place to live.
“For us, it’s about building relationships with residents, working together to identify issues, and ensuring they know how to reach out for support. Each case we resolve is another step towards a stronger, safer Swindon.”
Councillor Jim Grant, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Partnerships, said: “Our Anti-Social Behaviour officers are a lifeline for many residents who may be facing disruptive or unsafe situations in their neighbourhoods.
“The team’s work not only helps resolve individual cases but also builds a sense of safety and resilience within our communities. Their commitment to Swindon’s residents makes a tangible difference every day.
“We’re asking residents to support their work, by reporting any incidents of anti-social behaviour either directly to the Council or via the relevant agency.”
Joint patrols with Swindon Borough Council Housing Enforcement Officers, Wiltshire Police and Community Safety Partnership have recently been checking the current Partial Closure Orders that are in place in Beulieu Close, Toothill.
In June, volunteer litter pickers collaborated with local agencies, including the Community Safety Partnership teams and Swindon Central Neighbourhood Policing Team to complete a community clean-up day in Broadgreen.
