A Swindon man who went missing while on holiday in Thailand has been found dead in a storm drain.

The body of Fraser Wright, 37, was recovered from an open sewer on Wednesday morning when emergency services were called to the scene outside Tawan Bike Shop in Patong.

Wright failed to return to the Seaview Hotel, where he was staying with his family, and he was reportedly last seen leaving at 10pm on Tuesday.

He is believed to have gone out drinking alone on the island of Phuket when he went missing.

The local media outlet Bangkok Post reported that there is CCTV footage showing a man walking towards the storm drain and he can be seen leaning on the one-metre-high barrier surrounding it.

He can then be seen climbing over the barrier and falling in.

The outlet has also reported that a doctor conducted an autopsy and found Wright had likely died of suffocation five to six hours prior to being found, but there were no traces of a physical assault or foul play.

The UK Foreign Office said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Thailand and are in contact with the local authorities.”
