Wreckage remaining from a two-vehicle crash that happened two months ago shows a “lack of pride”, it has been claimed.

On September 22 at 8.40pm, a crash wiped out traffic lights on the junction 16 Spittleborough Roundabout for the M4 and A3102.

Two months later and the lights are still there, toppled on the tarmac of a main entrance route to Swindon.

One anonymous reader wrote to the Adver, stating: “I'm wondering why these broken traffic lights have been left on the ground for many weeks.(Image: Dave Cox)

“Surely they could be replaced and the wreckage cleared away at junction 16. There is not much pride in our area I feel.”

The Adver contacted National Highways who responded that the removal is still in hand, promising an “imminent” removal.

A spokesperson said: “Following the incident in late September, we are in the process of arranging a permanent replacement and as part of that process the damaged traffic signal pole will be removed imminently.”

The crash was not reported at the time, but pictures taken at the time of writing demonstrate its extent and force.

The damage is still visible today to anyone travelling onto the M4 or on the A3102 onto Royal Wootton Bassett and Lyneham.
