A dog walker had a near miss as a result of Storm Bert this morning as a part of a pub “crashed” to the floor metres away from where he stood.

Barry Cook was out with his dog when a large sign for The Boundary House fell just 30 seconds ahead of him.

While he was shaken his six-month-old black Labrador, Gripper, “wasn’t bothered”.(Image: Barry Cook)

He said: “I’ve been a window cleaner for the last 20 years, so I’ve experienced all weathers. Today is definitely a windy one.”

Wiltshire Police has said its control room is receiving a large number of calls about fallen debris, asking that 999 be called only in emergencies.

The Boundary House pub on The Street in Moredon is owned by Arkell’s Brewery, which recently applied to turn the pub, closed since 2022, into housing.

The pub has been owned by the local brewery since 1877 but was loss-making since 2016 and unable to find a suitable tenant since it closed.
