A Swindon cinema has suddenly announced it will be closed for an unknown time after it cancelled films at short notice.

The Cineworld in Shaw Ridge is the only branch remaining after the Regent Circus movie theatre closed shut permanently earlier this year.

But the cinema says that it will be closed “until further notice” due to “unforeseen circumstances”. There is no indication when it will reopen.

It comes after the cinema cancelled an evening showing of Wicked two hours before it was due to start, refunding customers.

Customers commented that other showings of Wicked and Gladiator were also cancelled.

The cinema promised there would be other show times available, but this changed when the cinema announced it would stay closed until 3pm today, and then indefinitely.

It said: “Unfortunately we are remaining closed until further notice, again we do apologise for any inconvenience caused by this.

“Our customer service team will be in touch regarding refunds. We appreciate your patience while these technical issues are being resolved and will update again when we are back open.”

The Regent Circus Cineword showed its last film on October 6 after it became one of five sites deemed “commercially unviable” by the company.

Cineworld has been contacted for further details.
