Storm Bert continues to cause havoc on local roads with police being called to the A419.

The dual carriageway has reportedly seen more than one crash on Sunday evening, with Wiltshire Police issuing a warning to people to stay away.

A spokesperson said: "We are currently responding to a number of minor [Road Traffic Collisions] and flooding on the A419, particularly in the Blunsdon and Stratton St Margaret area of Swindon.

"This is causing delays.

"Please avoid the A419 if possible and only travel if necessary."

A spokesperson for the Swindon North, East and Rural Neighbourhood Policing Team added: "Please be advised the A419 North bound at the bottom of the hill is down to one lane due to flooding. Please be careful out there and take extra care driving."

This follows the closure of Perry's Lane in Wroughton which is heavily flooded and a number of other road closures in the wider Wiltshire area including the A303 and A3102.

Power lines have fallen leaving people without power, trees have blocked roads and parts of buildings have been ripped off.

Storm Bert has also affected local and Wiltshire businesses with the West Swindon Shaw Ridge Cineworld, Roves Farm and Longleat Safari Park among those forced to close because of the wind and rain.
