An NHS blood donation session had to be cancelled at Swindon Town’s Nigel Eady County Ground last week due to a problem with the heating.

The regularly scheduled NHS Give Blood session, which takes place at the Legends Lounge at Swindon’s stadium had to be cancelled on November 21 after the heating at the venue did not meet requirements.

A post on The Town End Forum revealed that people hoping to donate blood were turned away because of the lack of heating.

Ruth Bilbe, Area Matron for NHS Blood and Transplant, said: “We apologise to blood donors whose appointments had to be cancelled yesterday due to a lack of heating during our session held at The Nigel Eady County Ground.

“Unfortunately, the heating in the room provided to NHS Blood and Transplant was not working and portable heaters were not able to raise the temperature to 16 degrees, which is the minimum temperature for our blood donation sessions.

“We are grateful to all our loyal donors in Swindon and we hope to see them at sessions again soon.”

When asked for comment, Swindon Town said that the heating in the Legends Lounge is not broken but did not provide comment about what caused the cancellation.
