Roadworks are set to hit a major A-road in Wiltshire after the area was hit by severe flooding.

Drainage works, described by the council as “essential”, will take place on the A350 West Cepen Way at Chippenham throughout Wednesday, November 27.

The roadworks will mean temporary traffic lights are installed on the major A-road through the county, between Bumpers Farm Roundabout and Cepen Park South Roundabout.

These will be in place from 9.30am to 3pm.

A council spokesperson added: “Essential drainage works are taking place on the A350 West Cepen Way today between Bumpers Farm Roundabout and Cepen Park South Roundabout, due to recent flooding.

“Works will be carried out under two-way traffic lights from 9.30am to 3pm. We apologise for any inconvenience.”

The works come after Chippenham experienced the worst flooding in the town since the 1960s.

During the downpour, brought on by Storm Bert, the A350 was shut and remained closed on Monday morning.

It has since reopened to traffic.

Meanwhile much of the town centre was also left underwater on Monday, before reopening the following day once flood waters had receded.
