There is heavy traffic at a busy Swindon junction of an A-road due to an “electrical fire” affecting traffic signals.

The traffic is extending south on the A4311 Cricklade Road from the junction with Beechcroft Road, near the Moonrakers roundabout.

Wiltshire Police say that traffic lights on Cricklade Road are down due to an electrical fire.

Police, the fire service and SSEN engineers are at a scene around The Little Dessert Shop on Cricklade Road, with the AA reporting a “building fire”.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “Please be aware that the traffic lights on Cricklade Road, in Swindon, are temporarily out of order - due to an electrical fire.(Image: Newsquest)

“Engineers are currently at the scene working to resolve the issue, which is affecting all traffic lights from the Moonrakers Roundabout to the Transfer Bridges.

“Please expect delays in the area and seek alternative routes where possible.”

A cordon has been set up around the dessert shop, and a nearby shopkeeper says that electricity has been lost to all neighbouring shops.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said: “We were called to Cricklade Road, Swindon at 9.46am this morning (29 November) for a small electrical fire in a ground floor shop.

“The incident has affected the electricity supply in the immediate area and SSE engineers are on site.”

The AA reports: “Partially blocked and delays due to building fire on A4311 Cricklade Road Northbound near Moonrakers Junction.”
