A police cordon has been lifted following the discovery of a body in Swindon in the latest update from the authorities.

Wiltshire Police added that a file is being prepared for the coroner, but that formal identification of the body has not yet been completed.

The body was discovered in a wooded area near Westbury Road during the early hours of the morning of Thursday, November 28.

Police believe that the discovery is linked to a man, Robert, 54, who went missing from his home in Penhill the night before.

It is not believed that there are any suspicious circumstances around the death. The cordon which was surrounding an area of grassland while forensics teams worked has been removed.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said at the time: “We can confirm that a body has been found in the search for missing Swindon man Robert.

“Sadly, a body was discovered early this morning, and while formal identification has not yet taken place, the family of Robert have been informed of this latest development.

“Our thoughts are with them at this extremely difficult time.”
