A Swindon town centre bank is still closed one month after it announced it would be undergoing refurbishment.

Lloyds Bank on Regent Street closed on Friday, October 25, informing customers with a notice placed in the front window that the branch would be closed for just under five weeks until 9am on Thursday, November 28.

However, a new handwritten sign has been placed on the door to say “apologies but the bank is closed until further notice. Thank you for your understanding.”

It is unclear whether the bank did reopen on Thursday, November 28 but on Friday afternoon several customers were waiting outside trying to see what was going on and appeared to be frustrated that there was no explanation given for why they were still unable to go into the branch.

Ahead of the refurbishment, the sign directed customers to their online services and mobile banking app, while also advising them that the nearest Lloyds Bank can be found on High Street in Old Town.

Those without internet access or who still wish to do their banking in person can visit a local Post Office for assistance, with the nearest one being on Regent Street.
