The M4 will close both ways for 10 junctions next year, among other road closures planned.
In a window of January 2 to December 24, 2025, National Highways will carry out a number of overnight closures in phases, but the exact dates have not been confirmed.
One phase will be closing both carriageways of the M4 between Junction 5 and Junction 15, including all slip and link roads leading to and from those carriageways.
A second phase is closing the entire circulatory systems at M4 Junction 8/9, Junction 13, and Junction 15.
A third phase would close the hard shoulder adjacent to the lengths of the road in the second phase.

And fourthly, the closure of any emergency refuge area adjacent to these road lengths.
National Highways states in a public notice: “The duration of each closure would vary depending on the nature of the maintenance work being undertaken on each occasion.
“Overnight closures taking place on the M4 and connecting roads between Junctions 5 and 15 would be in operation between 21:00 and 06:00 (maximum period).
“Planned maintenance work would be scheduled to avoid disruption during known peak periods, although essential maintenance may be necessary during these periods to prevent the need for emergency works.”
