I had a real nightmare of a day yesterday, with the dangerous one. The day starting on a dodgy note and proceeded to get even dodgier! I dropped all the kids off at school, except for Alfie, whose playgroup had one of those dreaded "training days"
I had promised Abbiegail a new dress, to wear to the school Valentines Disco that evening. Now I was determined to get something very, pink and very girly. I am making the most of her wearing party dresses. My eldest daughter, 9, plays rugby and footie and refuses to be seen in anything resembling "pretty" or "pink". So, I am determined to squeeze as many "party dress occasions" out of Abbiegail, as possible, before she too changes into a semi adult, whose favourite colour is black like her sister!
Alfie is a typical man and hates shopping! You only have to mention the "S" word and you can see him starting to break into a cold sweat! He had settled his little backside on the sofa, in front of a Dora DVD and looked settled for the next few hours. I however had other plans. I could not leave him with Michael, as he was off to Devizes, to do some research. So it was shopping or shopping for the poor dangerous one.
I managed to get him into town by luring him with the promise of a cooked breakfast in Woolworths. I figured if we shopped and he had a full stomach, it may placate him a little. Anyway, we got into town and sat in the restaurant, with our bacon and eggs. I cut up his food for him and he proceeded to take his first mouthful. Now he was very excited about all this and was jibber jabbering away, whilst waving his knife and fork around manically. Before I could say "be careful" there was an ear piercing scream. He had stabbed himself in the eye, with the metal prong of his fork. He cried and refused to open his eye. I was quite anxious to take a look at his eye, but he refused to open it, which made me panic! I quickly wet a serviette and put that on his eye, for the swelling. He sat there for ages really quietly, with this serviette on his eye, refusing to open it. Eventually, he opened it and I was able to examine it. I could see no obvious marks, although it did look quite sore.
So, the shopping was abandoned (honestly the things you men will do to get out of shopping!) and I made my way to A&E, to get it checked. We had a long wait but dangerous one didn't seem to mind, as there was a play area that he was happy to explore. I sat there thinking about how disappointed Abbie was going to be, when she found out that she had no dress to wear to her disco. We were called in after about an hour and saw a lovely doctor. He had to put this dye into Alfie's eye, in order to check it. Alfie was none to keen and was even more stressed when the doctor turned all the lights out and the room was in complete darkness. "Arrrggghh! Monsters!" he panicked! Anyway, we eventually got the eye examination out of the way and the lights switched back on. The doctor could not see any lasting damage, which was a relief! But, in case of infection, he decided to prescribe antibiotic eye drops, to put in at home, for the next five days. He tried to cheer Alfie up by giving him this lovely teddy bear called George. This totally freaked Alfie out, as he has a fear of furry teddy bears (sensory problems!). So we left a rather lovely doctor along with a teddy called George.
We left the hospital at 1.45pm and Alfie proceeded to fall asleep immediately, in his pushchair, after all the excitement! So, I managed to get into town, rush around and get a beautiful pink, frilly dress and accessories for Abbiegail.
Cinderella (aka Abbiegail) went to her ball/disco along with the other kids. They all had a really good time. With many thanks to the "Friends of Lainesmead" and Lainesmead Staff, who were involved. :)
Don't think I will bother going shopping today! It's not worth the hassle!
