MOVES in Swindon to safeguard the town’s libraries have been welcomed by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council.
The MLA commissioned a month-long review of the town’s libraries with Swindon Borough Council.
Consultants have recommended that the libraries at Even Swindon, Old Town and Walcot should remain open, pending any long-term strategic decisions.
At Old Town, the library will work with the autism charity, Discovering Autistic Spectrum Happiness volunteers to ensure the under-fire facility remains open.
The report has also endorsed the proposal that a mobile library service should be provided at Gorse Hill, to provide a more visible and flexible service.
The MLA, working in conjunction with Swindon Council, believes that the report provides the best framework for a strategic review of the library service.
A report, which considers the review’s recommendations, will be discussed by the council at its July 22 Cabinet meeting.
