A FOUR-year-old boy suffered serious head injuries when a car smashed into a garage.

A man also received minor injuries in the crash in Juno Way, Rushey Platt, at 10.30pm on Tuesday.

Witnesses saw the car’s bloodied occupants leaving the wreckage of the vehicle.

David Seaton, 33, who owns the garage and the house next to it, said: “I was selling the house but I don’t know what I’m going to do now. It looks bad but I’m more concerned about the lad in the car.”

Mr Seaton said the driver was at first trapped in the car but managed to free himself before running away from the wreckage carrying the boy.

He said. “He had the boy in his arms. He was covered in blood.”

Another witness, Matthew Catan, from neighbouring Redbridge Close, said: “I heard an almighty bang. There were lots of people out in the street but no one was really sure what had happened.”

Mr Catan said he was shocked to hear a child had been seriously injured in the incident.

The car and the garage were both seriously damaged. The driver of the car is believed to live locally.

A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after the incident.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “On Tuesday at approximately 10.30pm police were called to a single vehicle collision in Juno Way, where a silver Mercedes Benz had collided with the garage of number two, causing significant damage to the garage and the car.

“The driver of the car sustained minor injuries, however a four-year-old child sustained serious head injuries and was taken to Great Western Hospital where he was treated and stabilised before being transferred to Oxford’s John Radcliffe hospital.

“The arrested man was taken to Gablecross police station.

“Officers from the Northern Roads’ Policing Unit are investigating the collision.”
