THAMES Water's investigations are continuing into the burst water main.

The Old Town end of Mill Lane is now partially open after water beneath the road burst buckling the surface.

The road is open to one-way traffic only as engineers from Thames Water make repairs and continue their investigations into how the main burst.

Hilary Bennett, spokesman for the water company said: "The road is open but restricted to one lane of traffic, while we make repairs to the void caused by the burst.

"We cannot say when the road will re-open completely, as we are still investigating the cause and the road repairs will have to be carried out."

The leak started at about 10.30am on Tuesday. Thames Water engineers were called and re-routed the water to a different network.

Yesterday the Adver reported that many nearby residents were angry that so much water was wasted while the town is in the grip of a hosepipe ban.

Last Thursday Rodbourne Road was submerged after workmen hit a water pipe.
