POLICE have uncovered up to £10,000 worth of class A drugs in an abandoned car.

Two teenagers and a 36-year-old have been arrested as a result of the find.

As well as yesterday's discovery, officers carried out two separate raids.

Following the raids, an 18-year-old from Omdurman Street, in Gorse Hill, was arrested on suspicion of possessing class A drugs and a Meadowcroft man was picked up on suspicion of handling stolen goods.

Three stereos, believed to be stolen property, were found in a home in Stratton.

Sergeant Scott Hargreave, from Swindon police's crime targeting team, said yesterday's results, with five arrests in all, show there is no let-up for the drugs community.

The stash in the car was revealed after a complaint from a member of the public about a dumped blue Vauxhall Cavalier in Eldene.

Police seized the car on Wednesday night and soon discovered it was packed with 100 grams of what is thought to be heroin and crack cocaine.

After making checks on the vehicle's history they arrested two 18-year-olds and the 36-year-old in Walcot yesterday.

The police have compared the recovery of the drugs and the three arrests to a raid in Old Town in February, which uncovered thousands of pounds worth of drugs and a replica handgun.

Sgt Hargreave said: "It shows we are still having success and we are not going to let up.

"We are continuing the fight against drugs and the crime that goes with it in Swindon.

"This is as good as the Old Town job in terms of the quantity we have taken off the street. It's excellent.

"We want to make it clear we will not accept people dealing here.

"We are not just targeting the people bringing it in to Swindon but the people it is passed on to and the people dealing in the town centre."

On Monday the Advertiser revealed three men had been jailed for a total of nine years for running drugs in the town.

Sgt Hargreave added: "We are not just targeting the dealers but also people who are handling stolen goods because that's obviously linked to the drugs trade.

"We are going to keep doing this until we have got rid of all the dealers in the town."
