POLICE have re-launched an appeal for information on a distraction burglary at the home of an 83-year-old man.
Two thieves struck at the home of Trevor Fry in Cornwall Avenue, Rodbourne, just before 3pm on Tuesday, May 2.
One of the men claimed to be from the water board and after barging his way into the house stole a jar of coins.
Speaking to the Adver at the time former railway worker Mr Fry, pictured right, described those responsible as the lowest of the low.
PC Steve Hicketts said: "Those who prey on the elderly and the vulnerable in this way are very persuasive and plausible.
"They will use every trick in the book to gain entry and rifle through possessions, taking anything of value.
"We are calling upon residents, their families, friends and carers, to be aware of such callers. Our advice is never let anyone into your home or give them any information about yourself.
"Always ask unknown callers for proof of identity and check it carefully. If you are still in doubt don't let them in."
Anyone with information should call PC Hicketts at Swindon police on 0845 408 7000.
