KATHRYN Gregory will be checking every package before she throws it away from now on.
After binning a pack of multivitamins with cod liver oil, the 36-year-old noticed something glistening in the rubbish.
And in a Willy Wonka style moment the geography teacher realised the shimmering scrap of paper was a golden ticket announcing she had won a £10,000 cruise.
"I can't believe this has happened to me. I'm always entering raffles and competitions but the only thing I have ever won is £10 on the lottery," said the Highworth Warneford teacher.
"I didn't even mean to buy these vitamins, because I don't take cod liver oil."
Kathryn, who is married to David, a 36-year-old sales manager, added: "When I saw the ticket I had to scramble around the rubbish to fish it out.
"I thought Oh yeah I'm sure I've won a cruise' but gave the number a call anyway to check it out. When I was told I really had won I was so shocked."
The win was even more unbelievable because the couple's one passion in life is travel.
"This is just a dream come true for us," said Kathryn, of Morestone Road, Wootton Bassett.
"David and I both love travelling. Every five years we save up about £30,000 and go off backpacking for a year.
"We've been all over South America and Asia but we have always had to stay in hostels to keep the costs down."
But no expense will be spared on this trip of a lifetime.
The couple were able to pick their dream destination and they didn't have to think long about where they wanted to go.
"Not long ago we drew up a list of 50 things we want to do before we're 50 and one was to go to Alaska," said Kathryn.
Alaska is the biggest state in America and one of outstanding natural beauty.
"This is the perfect time to go there. Because of global warming the ice is melting and we want to see it before the landscape changes."
And with this amount of money the couple can experience Alaska in style for a change they will have a private butler at their beck and call.
"Just the thought of blowing £10,000 on a two-week holiday seems absolutely crazy but we're going to make the most of it we'll never be able to do it again," she added.
"We're going to go out and buy really posh clothes, this is going to be such a posh trip and I can't wait."
The couple set off on their holiday on July 26.
