THE mayor of Swindon burst into song with children on a visit to a music school.
Ray Fisher described the Music Centre at Churchfields School as one of Swindon's best kept secrets.
"I sat on the floor with the little 'uns and we sang songs from the Sound Of Music," he said.
Some of the are as young as two years old. This term they are learning to play the recorder.
Their music teacher, Lynn Hawkins, is well known for her singing talents, and always starts the class with a vocal warm-up and plenty of good singing.
She said: "I am very proud of what these children have achieved in such a short time. They amaze me with their everlasting enthusiasm, and make my job such a joy. If they are the future of music in Swindon, then I am very excited about what lies ahead."
Mr Fisher also met some of the older students, trying his hand at the guitar and drums. "I was congratulated on how well I held the guitar, but I wouldn't have had a clue about playing it," he said.
Musicians can learn the violin, guitar, flute and recorder. There are also three wind bands of varying standards.
During the week there is the senior wind band, three rock schools for young rockers and jazz orchestras.
