SWINDON has been ranked 89th in a UK-wide list of motorbike theft hotspots.
But despite the town's position as one of the safer places to keep a bike, it has risen 23 places higher than when the same survey was carried out last year, when the town was ranked one of the most secure in the country.
The report has been compiled by Motor Cycle News after the magazine analysed more than 50,000 motorbike thefts in the UK last year.
North London is the country's worst place for stolen bikes, while Dumfries and Galloway, the Isle of Man and Galashiels came out best in the league table sharing equal 112th place in the standings.
The Yahama R1 has become the most commonly stolen bike in the UK, followed by Honda's CBR600 and the Yahama R6.
Most thefts now take place from private drives or garages.
Tony Carter, news editor of Motor Cycle News, said: "Motorcycles are very desirable and are obviously at the top of thieves' wish list."
