A SWINDON gardener has been celebrating her success after winning a silver medal at the prestigious Malvern show.

Gill Blackman, of Drove Road, said she was delighted to have won a coveted Royal Horticultural Society medal at the show.

"I am really pleased, but it is also a relief," she said.

Gill's garden, called A Bonnie Burn, was inspired by visits to her uncle's home at the foot of Ben Ledi, by a stream that runs to Loch Lubnaig.

"All the rocks we used were brought in from Scotland, and included Scottish glacier boulders.

"It was quite hard work, but worth it. Everyone said the garden looked natural, which was what we wanted."

Gill found out she would be designing a garden for the show in December.

"It really does take months of planning," said Gill, who runs her own garden design company.

"And in March I moved house. So we had one van for the furniture and the other for the plants."

The garden proved to be a hit with the visitors and even featured on the BBC's Gardeners' World programme.

"I was amazed when I saw it.

"Obviously they don't spend much time on it, but I saw them filming and was thrilled to see it make the programme."
