RICHARD Butcher will stand trial in July accused of murdering his wife at their Chiseldon home.

A judge ruled yesterday that Butcher will remain in custody until the start of the trial on July 5.

He is accused of murdering 25-year-old Julie Butcher at their Castle View Road in November last year.

The 36-year-old defendant denies the charge.

He appeared at Bristol Crown Court via video link from the city's Horfield Prison for a custody time limit application hearing yesterday.

He spoke only to confirm his name.

Judge John Foley extended his custody to the day after he is due to stand trial.

Mother-of-three Julie Butcher was found stabbed to death in the bathroom of her home at 11.30am on November 15.
