CHILDMINDERS are broadening their horizons with a new training scheme.
Trio, which looks after 430 of Swindon's childminders, is holding a series of new doorstep training schemes, which allows them to learn new skills at home while working.
Helen David, of Trio, said: "These doorstep training schemes give childminders a chance to broaden their skills without going to evening classes, which they might be unable to attend because they have children of their own.
"Childminders can do the courses in their own homes, in a more informal atmosphere and they can apply what they learn straight away with the youngsters they are looking after, so the childminders and the children benefit."
This week childminder Maxine Apps held a session on sensory play at her home in Highworth.
Among the courses on offer are those looking at sensory play, behaviour management and exercise for development.
Those childminders taking part must be registered with Ofsted, attend initial training and hold a current first aid certificate.
They are also required to register as a food premises and are therefore informed by Environmental Health of any food-related issues.
The Trio childminders provide care for children from birth to the age of 14.
