TWO more men have received lengthy jail terms after undercover police caught them peddling drugs in Swindon town centre.

Brian Wootton and Clifford Curtis are both behind bars after trying to push heroin to officers who became friendly with users around The Parade.

Both men have histories of dealing in hard drugs and Wootton, 27, was jailed for four years while Curtis, 25, received a three-year prison term.

A judge at Swindon Crown Court was told that on Tuesday, January 10, the two officers were buying drugs from another man, Stuart Cambridge, in The Parade.

Cambridge went to a phone kiosk nearby to get some heroin from two men for the male officer, and then Wootton sold the officers two wraps of heroin weighing a total of 0.348 grams for £20.

Almost a week later the officers were back in town looking for Cambridge, known as Stu.

They met Curtis, who led them up a small alleyway and produced a package from his mouth which he sold for £20.

The court heard that when it was examined it was found not to be heroin but 166mg of a waxy substance.

When arrested Curtis accepted he had intended the officers to believe he was selling them heroin.

Curtis, of Cowleaze Crescent, Wroughton, admitted to offering to supply heroin and Wootton, of Chestnut Avenue, Pinehurst, admitted supplying the drug.

In 2002 Wootton was jailed for 44 months on the Isle of Man for smuggling drugs on to the island.

He was caught bringing a car over on a ferry from Liverpool with 10kg of cannabis and 1kg of cocaine in the spare wheel.

Curtis was jailed for three years in 2002 when he was convicted of dealing heroin and crack cocaine in Swindon.

Jailing them Judge Tom Longbotham pointed out that as they have previous convictions for dealing they will be subject to long jail terms if convicted for a third time.

He said: "Those who go on committing these sorts of offences are the next time liable to a minimum sentence of seven years, so you are going into deep waters."

Earlier this month the Swindon Advertiser reported, pictured right, how Justin Collier was jailed for four years, Stuart Cambridge three years and Robert Woodford two years for their part in the operation.

A fourth man, Andrew Bloxsome, 22, was given a 51-week sentence which was suspended for two years.

Cambridge, 34, of Albany Close, admitted three counts of supply and two of offering to supply.

He has previous convictions for 93 offences.

Collier, 34, of Beaulieu Close, Toothill, admitted two supply and two being concerned in the supply.

He has 82 previous offences.

Bloxsome, 22, also of Beaulieu Close, admitted one supply and Woodford, 30, of Bow Court, South Street, Old Town, two counts of supply. They have eight and four previous matters respectively.
