THIS is the first look at Swindon Council's new one stop shop and your help is wanted to shape how it works.

The council is launching the new-look customer services department to make it easier for people to contact them with queries, requests and information. It is due to open in 2010.

The customer services department, due to be located in the new town centre library, is one of the changes the council is making to improve the way it runs and to provide a streamlined service.

The aim is to make it easier for the public to get in touch.

Deputy leader Coun Fionuala Foley (Con, Old Town and Lawn) said: "We are very excited about our new one stop shop and contact centre as it will provide a much more efficient and flexible service to our customers.

"What we need from the public is their thoughts on how best we can serve them in terms of which opening hours will suit them and generally what services they would find helpful.

"We appreciate that people have very busy lives and that when dealing with a council matter they want to get it sorted out as quickly as possible."

Anyone interested in giving their views can fill out a questionnaire, available from the town's libraries or by logging on to www.swindon.gov.uk The closing date for completed questionnaires is June 16.
