THERE is still time for Adver readers to nominate the top lifesavers in Swindon.
The Adver has teamed up with Vodafone to look for inspiring stories of people who have saved the lives of others in difficult circumstances. Nominations can include members of the public or the emergency services, and the story named as the best from Adver readers will win a Vodafone 3G mobile phone for the nominator and the rescuer.
A Vodafone spokeswoman said: "We are seeking individuals or crews who embody the spirit of all those unsung heroes within our emergency services, whose work is so often taken for granted.
"Equally, our winning lifesaver could be an ordinary member of the public who has shown outstanding courage or initiative when confronted with a life-threatening emergency."
Soon Vodafone will be announcing which celebrities have agreed to sit on the Advertiser's judging panel, and the awards have already been backed by a range of well-known people including pop star turned television presenter Myleene Klass, Falklands veteran Simon Weston, model Nell McAndrew, actor Martin Kemp and actress Claire Sweeney.
"I would like to say how proud I am to be a part of these awards which pay tribute to so many amazingly brave people," said Myleene.
The rescue must have happened in the past two years and Swindon's top lifesaver will go on to the south west's shortlist.
The regional winner will go through to the national judging round, with the top 10 national winners invited to a reception with Prime Minister Tony Blair at Downing Street and a black tie gala awards night in London.
To nominate, write to the Advertiser newsdesk at 100 Victoria Road Swindon SN1 3BE, saying in no more than 500 words why your nomination should be considered. Please include the name of the rescuer and the person or people saved, as well as a daytime telephone number.
All entries must be received by Friday, June 16.
