A TEENAGER had a lucky escape after the car she was travelling in was in collision with another.
Fire crews had to cut the 18-year-old girl out of the car.
Now residents on Drakes Way, who claim there is at least one accident there a week, want to see something done to slow down motorists.
The incident happened at 3.30pm yesterday on the Greenbridge bound side of Drakes Way, outside St Joseph's School.
Police, who had to close the road, are investigating the cause of the accident.
The male driver of the purple convertible, in which the 18-year-old girl was travelling, was in collision with another car.
Residents immediately called the emergency services and rushed to the aid of the vehicles' occupants.
Caroline Cox, who is a trained first-aider, was visiting her sister Yvonne Corcoran when they heard the bang from the accident made.
"I sat in the car with her and held her head while we waited for the paramedics to arrive," said the 42-year-old.
"She had a cut to her head and was complaining of back and neck pain so they decided to cut her out.
"She is lucky she didn't go through the windscreen looking at the damage that has been done to the car."
The girl and the driver of the convertible were both taken to the Great Western Hospital.
No one in the other vehicle was hurt, but they were checked by paramedics at the scene.
But Ms Corcoran, 44, said this wouldn't be the last time there will be accident.
"People race between the lights and others brake for no reason," she said.
"There is at least one accident every week, and that you can guarantee.
"It is right outside a school as well, and so many children have nearly been hit at the traffic lights even though the lights have been at red.
"I'm just so glad my kids aren't little."
Fire crews from Swindon and Stratton attended the scene, along with the rescue vehicle from Westlea.
The police were able to re-open the road at 5pm.
