A SPORTS club for adults with learning disabilities is celebrating its 100th session today.
Swindon Champions, co-ordinated by Swindon Council’s leisure services team, was set up in April 2008 providing 90 minutes of exercise at Dorcan Rec every week.
Each week, about 20 members try their hands at cricket, swimming, tai-chi, fencing, dance, netball, basketball, circuit training and snorkelling.
To celebrate Swindon Champions’ 100th session, the club is holding a sports quiz and party at Dorcan Rec tonight between 6.30pm and 8pm.
Ben Humphrey, ability sport development officer, said: “Swindon Champions is all about having fun and being inclusive. We have created a fun and safe environment for all participants to succeed.
“I have been very pleased with the skills progression and increase in confidence of the group.”
Chris Smith, Assistant Manager at Dorcan Rec, said: “We have built up strong relationships with participants as well as the organiser and this has been of great benefit.
“We are very much a sports centre that cares about clubs and we have managed to form links between our current clubs and the Swindon Champions.”
