ANIMAL lovers in Swindon are being called on to raise funds for a charity which provides free veterinary care for pets in need of vets.
A North Swindon fundraising group for the PDSA has been set up to generate cash for the charity.
Founder Brent Boxley said the group needs more volunteers with a passion for helping sick animals.
He said: “As the recession has bitten deeper more people are finding it difficult to raise the money to pay for treatment when their pets are ill.
“The effects are being felt at PDSA PetAid hospitals. In fact the recession has hit so many people that one in five households may have to rely on the help of PDSA.”
In 2010, PetAid services will cost an estimated £4m a month.
To help, the group is organising a series of events including its first sponsored dog walk on Sunday, June 13 at Lydiard Park.
There will also be family attractions and crafts stalls on the day. Email enquiries@swindonvolunteers.co.uk or log on to www.swindonvolunteers.
