FIRE crews from Swindon were called out to a rubbish fire near the tip in Cheney Manor on Sunday.
Firefighters were alerted by a member of public who saw plumes of smoke rising out of the woodland behind the tip on Derby Close.
The crew were unable to get the fire engine to the fire because of its location, but were able to pump water from a nearby river and extinguish the blaze by 5pm.
The fire involved tyres and rubbish. It is not yet known if it was started deliberately.
Crews also attended a number of other rubbish fires in the town over the weekend, including one in Leigh Road, in Penhill, on Saturday and one in Pinehurst Road at 5.05pm on Sunday.
They also attended a kitchen fire on Friday afternoon at Mellow Ground, Haydonleigh, and a car fire at 2.05pm on the same day on the A3102 at Blagrove.
Anyone with information should contact Swindon police on 0845 408 7000, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
