POLICE in Swindon are appealing for information after a man armed with a knife robbed a newsagents shop in Covingham Square yesterday morning.
The man entered the Martin McColl store at around 7.30am and after picking up an item, approached the counter to pay.
As the female assistant opened the till to give the man his change, he attempted to grab money from the drawer while holding a knife in his other hand.
The shop assistant was able to stop the man from stealing a significant amount of cash and received a minor injury to her hand as a result. It is believed he got away with only a handful of change.
He is described as white, aged in his mid to late thirties and was believed to be wearing a ‘Faux’ mid brown suede jacket/coat with button fastenings, a grey beanie type hat and jeans.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC Jake Tuck of Swindon CID on 0845 408 7000.
