Green-fingered Lizzie Matheson has scooped a gold medal for her floral art display.

Lizzie is a member of Highworth and District Floral Art Society and a well-known floral art teacher and demonstrator in Swindon and throughout the South of England.

She won her gold medal at the Malvern Spring Garden Show, which ran from Thursday, May 6 to Sunday, May 9 at Blackmore Park Road, Malvern, in Worcestershire.

Her winning display was a dramatic table design created from orchids, wisteria, roses, peonies and moss, with butterflies and a ruined temple with a statue of Buddha as the centre piece.

Lizzie, from Stratton St Margaret, is no stranger to picking up awards, having netted the Malvern Best in Show in 2005, first prize in 2006 and a bronze medal at the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show in 2007.

Fellow Highworth Society member Carole Evans also did well at the show representing the south west area, winning a bronze medal. Her entry was an allotment garden, a design incorporating a knot garden made from vegetables and a garlanded doorway.

Highworth and District Floral Art Society meets on the first Thursday of the month at Warneford School at 7.30pm.
