POLICE have thanked a local community in Swindon for helping them get a potential drug dealer jailed.
Officers have said that it is purely down to intelligence gleaned from people in the Brookdene area that they were able to gather enough information to see Simon David Jones, 35, sent to prison.
Jones, of Brookdene, was arrested on September 22 last year after police officers executed a warrant after receiving increasing amounts of information about his activities.
Officers forced entry to an address in Brookdene where they found Jones and around £4,000 worth of cocaine and amphetamines.
He appeared at Swindon Crown Court last month where he was given a four-year sentence for possession of class-A Drugs with intent to supply.
Inspector Peter Chamberlain, of North Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Intelligence provided by the local community was vital in leading to this conviction.
“Drugs can have a destructive effect on not only individuals but also the wider community and this case sends a clear message to those involved with drugs that our officers are committed to working with the public to gather intelligence and disrupt this sort of activity wherever possible.
“This case highlights that people can feel safe in the knowledge we will act on all information received to take tough and necessary action against those responsible for this sort of crime.”
Anyone with any information about this sort of crime should contact their local Neighbourhood Policing Team or call police on 0845 408 7000.
Alternatively people can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where information can be left anonymously.
