A COUPLE, whose wedding dreams were shattered after the hotel they booked for their reception went bust, are celebrating after finding a new venue.

Hotels flooded the offices of the Swindon Advertiser with calls offering to help after reading of Sarah McCarthy and Andrew Burchett’s plight.

The Highworth couple, lost £2,000 when their venue, Jesmonds of Highworth, went out of business suddenly.

But now they can look forward to wedded bliss after taking up a generous offer from the De Vere Hotel at Shaw Ridge.

Ms McCarthy, 28, said: “We spoke to a few venues but the De Vere were just brilliant and so accommodating.

“They talked us through everything and we thought there would be no way we could afford to have the wedding there.

“But they said ‘What’s happened is awful, so we will look after you’.”

The hotel has offered them a free room for their reception along with a buffet for their 60 guests, so the couple and their guests will only have to pay for bedrooms and drinks.

They had hired out Jesmonds as the venue for their wedding reception as well as 10 rooms for their guests, some of whom were travelling from abroad.

But they received a phone call from the company on April 30 saying they would not be able to have their reception there on August 2 as they were going out of business.

Ms McCarthy said: “It did get to the point when I thought we were going to have to cancel the wedding.

“But it’s full steam ahead now and I am so excited.”

Andrew Spink, manager of the De Vere, said: “It was very sad for them and sad that the hotel was in that situation. We are just pleased we were able to offer them a solution that they have taken up. We wish them well.”
