THE SPIRIT of the Second World War is set to return to the village of Lyneham during a 1940s pub night in aid of Help for Heroes on Saturday, May 22.

The ‘live exhibition’ at the White Hart, which will feature activities and artifacts from the era, aims to raise funds for the charity, which supports soldiers who are wounded in the UK’s current conflicts.

Blitz Buddies – a Swindon-based 1940s nostalgia group, which organised the event – claims the theme is particularly pertinent as countries mark 75 years since the end of the war.

Member Trudie Clarkson said: “It is going to be an exciting experience.

It will be very tactile because there will be things going on around you.

“You will get a feeling of the era that you cannot get from books or television.”

The event, which runs from 11am until midnight, will see the pub in Chippenham Road decked out with memorabilia from the days of the war-effort, including propaganda posters.

In keeping with the theme, members of Blitz Buddies will be dressed in uniforms of the Home Guard, US Military and Women’s Land Army and a selection of vintage vehicles will be on display, including a US Dodge weapons carrier and a Morris Minor.

Attendants will have the chance to listen to 1940s music and learn old fashioned dance moves, including the jitterbug.

There will be also be a raffle and trade tents selling vintage clothes and jewellery.
