THE WORDS of a Swindon poet who died in November will be brought to life again during an evening of music at Christ Church in Old Town on Sunday.
Dorothy French’s poem The Journey, which has been set to music by young organist Peter Eyles, will be sung by the Christ Church Choir. The piece will begin the choral Evensong service at 6.30pm and it will be followed by other contemporary pieces of music.
The preces and responses have been specially written for the choir by Welsh composer Robert Jones, while the setting for the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis were written by Philip Moore and the choir will also sing the anthem Grow in Grace, written by Malcolm Archer in 2003.
Tim Eyles, director of music at Christ Church, will play the organ and Ron Ferris will be conducting the choir of some 20 singers.
Anyone is welcome to attend the service. A collection plate will be available for donations towards the work of the church.
