A WOMAN who is thought to have fallen from a multi-storey carpark in Swindon on Wednesday afternoon is said to not have life threatening injuries.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the Islington Street car park in the town centre shortly after 5pm following a frantic 999 call from a member of the public.

On arrival, crews found a 42-year-old local woman lying on the ground close to the car park with injuries to one side of her face and shoulder.

It is not yet know exactly how far she fell from the building but her injuries were assessed as not being life-threatening.

She was rushed to the Great Western Hospital where she is still being treated for her injuries.

The road was closed for a period of time while the emergency services dealt with the situation.

Police are now appealing for any information regarding the circumstances of the incident.

They are hoping that due to the time of the incident, when most people would be leaving work for home, someone must have seen something.

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: “The exact details of this incident remain unclear and officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this or has further information to be in touch.”

The multi-storey carparks in the town centre have been the scenes of many incidents over the years – including several suicide attempts.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who was in the Islington Street area of the town centre any time between 4pm and 5pm on Wednesday and have said that any scrap of information, no matter how small, might help them in piecing together what happened.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Wiltshire Police on 0845 408 7000, or anonymously, on Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
