SWINDON Male Voice Choir will be raising the dome at the Oasis Leisure Centre at a special charity concert.

Not only will their be voices raised in song but the band of the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers will be blowing up a storm in a concert to raise cash for the Help For Heroes on Saturday, June 19.

Gordie Smith, from the choir, said: “Here in Swindon we continue to share the humbling way in which the people of Wootton Bassett pay their respects to our service personnel, sadly killed in action.

“Swindon Male Voice Choir are looking to pay our own tribute to these heroes as well as paying tribute to the many servicemen who return to the UK with horrific injuries.’’ Last October, marking the choir’s 90th anniversary, the singers performed at London’s Royal Albert Hall, in the eighth Festival of Brass and Voices 2009. In 1919, the Great Western Railway Running Sheds Male Voice Choir was formed from workers of the Swindon railway works.

It was later transformed into today’s Swindon Male Voice Choir.

The concert starts at 7.30pm with a special guest soloist, 14-year-old Alice More.

Tickets are £10. Ring 01793 445401 or 822495 for details.
