WORKERS at one of Swindon’s biggest employers can now take part in a spot of volleyball during their lunchtime.

All 800 employees at Arval, based at the Windmill Business Park in West Swindon, have been invited to keep fit during their working day on the new outside volleyball court as part of the company’s commitment to providing their workers with access to health and fitness facilities.

Nick Simmons, part of the team charged with developing the court, said: “Arval is totally committed to supporting efforts to encourage our employees to partake in and enjoy sporting activity.

“The Arval ‘champions’ programme is working really well, and I am delighted the company has supported the creation of the new volleyball court.

“We can now set up lunchtime matches without the inconvenience of having to travel to another site to play, as well as saving on court hire costs.

“Having the court on site will hopefully encourage more employees to take up what is a great sport.”

The company has a number of workplace sport and wellbeing ‘champions’ who spearhead sporting and health activities for company employees, including mountain biking and road cycling, rowing, cricket, running and the recently launched spin bikes.

Volleyball is the latest addition to the growing number of sporting activities available to employees.

Jean-Marc Torre, Arval UK’s chief executive, officially opened the volleyball facility and immediately employees were lining up to show off their talent with a volleyball.

The state-of-the-art pitch is the first for any employer in Swindon but it is hoped that other major employers in the town might soon follow suit.

The court is free of charge for all employees.
