IT WAS a colourful night at the opening of Stage Struck’s latest show, both in terms of costumes and the variety of music being performed.
This was the first time I’d seen the company perform, and they have a fantastic relationship with their audience.
Although there were lots of little in-jokes for those who have been watching the group for a number of years, that didn’t mean newcomers felt left out. By the end of the first act you felt as though you were all old friends.
One of the nicest things about this show is that everyone on stage looked like they were enjoying it - sometimes amateurs look as though they’ve had a gun held to their heads and been forced out on stage.
There were some fantastic solo moments which showed off just how talented this bunch are as well as some gorgeous harmonies.
With a company of all ages it isn’t the easiest thing to come up with a dance routine that all of them can do but still looks impressive...but that’s exactly what director/choreographer Jane Osborne achieved.
Yes, the odd person did step the wrong way or do a movement at the wrong time, but this is an amateur company who do it because they love it - and that’s what the theatre should be about.
Stage Struck favourite Ken Jell brought the house down with his comedy routines alongside Geoff Marsh.
Whether it was because he was sliding across the stage in a chair or had a puppet on his head he had the crowd around us wiping away tears of laughter.
The audience on Thursday night was one of the most supportive groups of people I’ve ever had to pleasure of sitting amongst and it was wonderful to see so many of them joining in.
Whether you are going as a group, or just fancy a night out at the theatre by yourself you will definitely feel welcomed by the Stage Struck family.
