Artists are poised for the launch of this year’s Swindon Open Studios.

Following the success of the 2009 visual arts showcase, which had 60 artists on board, the organisers are hoping to top this number this year.

Co-organiser Linda Kasmaty said: “2009 was our most successful year so far.

“We are also expecting record numbers of visitors in 2010.”

The launch of this year’s showcase is on Thursday, June 10 at the Post Modern Art Gallery in Theatre Square at 7.30pm.

Linda says it is a chance for artists to have a glass of wine and chat to those already on board.

Artists within a 10-mile radius of the town will throw open their doors to the public to give them a peek behind the scenes of their studios.

The public will get a chance to meet the artists, see how they create their work and watch demonstrations of their individual techniques.

Linda said: “To take part you don’t have to have a studio. You might like to share a studio with another artist.

“Last year we had several very successful public spaces each shared by several artists.’’ Swindon Open Studios has five exhibition spaces, including Swindon Central Library for artist to set up easels and display their work.

Artists already signed up will be displaying paintings, textiles, drawings, sculpture, glass, ceramics, jewellery, computer graphics, photography and pastels.

There will also be demonstrations and cups of tea on offer.

Swindon Open Studios 2010 runs from Saturday, September 11 to Sunday, September 19. For more details or an application form visit www.swindonopen studios.org.uk or call 01793527149.
