A CHARITY golf day held at Broome Manor Golf Club has raised more than £1,500 for a local children’s cancer charity.

About 40 people took part in the event, which started off with bacon rolls and coffee in the morning followed by 18 holes of golf and a three-course meal at the Old Bank in Wood Street.

Prizes were up for grabs for nearest the pin, the winning team and M4 Minibus Centre even put forward £1,000 for the winner of a hole-in-one competition, which sadly no-one managed to achieve.

A charity raffle and auction in the evening helped boost the funds raised for local charity Calm (Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Movement), which cares for the needs of families within the Swindon and Marlborough NHS Trust area who have or have had children with cancer or leukaemia.

The event was organised by Rikki Hunt of Digital City, the company that is setting up a wi-fi internet service in the town.

Mr Hunt said: “It was a very good day and we raised more than £1,500.

“There was a lot of hard work put in by everybody involved in organising it.”

The team from C & D Recruitment won overall after scoring 91 points and the runners up were Fresh Integrated Marketing on 88 points.

Steve Robertson, Steve Rogers and Rob Lancaster were the three nearest-the-pin competition winners.

The organisers would like to thank all the teams who took part as well as the following companies who donated raffle and auction prizes: George White Superbikes, Swindon Marriott Hotel, the Old Bank, Broome Manor Golf Club, Wrag Barn Golf Club, the Retreat Spa, Inn Hair, Swindon De Vere Hotel, Digital City (UK), Wyvern Theatre, Swindon Greyhounds, Swindon Town Football Club, Chiseldon House Hotel, Cricklade Hotel and Country Club, Bowood Golf Club, Magnum Wine, Deacons Jewellers, MAN Truck & Bus, Juvals, C&D Recruitment and James and Nicola Phillips.
