BIRDWATCHERS are being invited to get their binoculars out for a special walk around Lydiard Park on Sunday.
Head warden Chris Walker will be leading the three-hour walk, which will take in the park’s woods, lakes and open fields, to identify the birds that live there.
Chris said: “Spring is a exciting time for birdwatchers. Robins, blackbirds, song and mistle thrushes are all out, singing loudly, proclaiming their territory.
“It’s also a good time to hear some of the newly arrived migrants – blackcaps, chiff chaffs and sedge warblers. This walk will take in the more remote areas of the park as we look and listen out for the different species that can be found.
“There will be plenty of stops along the way to enjoy the bird song and experience the excitement of seeing some of our native and migrant species. Complete beginners as well as more knowledgeable birdwatchers are very welcome.”
The walk starts at 9am and will cover about three miles within Lydiard Park – some stretches will be over uneven ground but the walk will be at a gentle pace.
Anyone who wants to take advantage of the free guided walk is asked to meet outside Lydiard Park café and visitor centre at 9am. Those taking part are asked to bring along binoculars, if they have them, and to wear stout footwear and appropriate clothes.
Places must be booked by calling Lydiard Park on 01793 770401 or email lydiardpark@swindon.gov.uk.
